Rumor mongering... Xbox looking at motion sensing controller

by jyan posted: 12/27/2007 9:55:00 PM

All companies copy each other and since the Wii has had a mega hit with the controller being the main star, rumors are going around that Microsoft is looking to make one for their system as well. Right now they are the only console out of the three that doesn't have a motion sensing controller. If they do come out with one, let's hope they don't charge and arm and a leg like most of their accessories. What do you think, is a motion sensing controller just what the 360 needs to get more casual gamers into their system?

     Thanks Kotaku.

Nice of them to introduce FUD the very day after I finally convinced the CFO to approve an earmark for a Wii. Guess there's no real reason that I have to tell her, though....

I picture it playing out like the weird side items on a restaurant menu. Y'know, like when you go to a steakhouse and they have, like, spaghetti too. Or you go out for Thai and they also serve some half-ass cheeseburger ... to satisfy that one jerk in the group that didn't really want to go where everyone else wanted to go for dinner that night.

What I mean is -- as far as the Xbox 360 is concerned -- casual, motion-sensor games will be that weird side order. Sure, curiosity will win out once in a (long) while. But the prices better be right. Because I ain't goin' to a Thai restaurant to buy an $8 burger. The beef satays in peanut sauce will win. And in this over-baked analogy, the beef satays in peanut sauce are the traditionally-controlled games.

But hey, if Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 throws in motion-sensing without dispensing with the rest of its standard control schemes? I'll check it out for a few rounds. That still won't make me enjoy golfing at Bandon Dunes. But I'll try it.

Dear lord, where's my coffee this morning?

Whats the point? The Wii aside, the PS3 motion sensing seems to be doing "OK", but I haven't had any problem playing Xbox 360 games without it. I really could give too shits about hiking the ball by dipping the controller. I say, leave it out or now, and re-evaluate it for the next generation of consoles.
